The Water We Talking About? podcast hosted by Water Online recently featured Alliance Executive Director Dan Keppen. While the overall interview focused on how to reach diverse stakeholders in order to find solutions, we wanted to share a segment where Dan is asked what message water professionals should hear from agriculture.  “Hug a farmer,” was Dan’s response, “thank them for your food.” He continued, “You wouldn’t believe what it takes for these people to do what they have to do. They are under incredible scrutiny…My fear is we’re taking farmers for granted.”
In a question about how the Family Farm Alliance finds success in bringing together a diverse coalition of interests surrounding Western agricultural water issues, Dan shared, “There’s no one silver bullet to solve our water challenges in the West…Instead it’s a lot of silver BBs. No two parties are likely to agree on any two sides of an argument. If you’re lucky, you can reach agreement on parts.”
