H.R. 2, the Farm Bill of 2018, sponsored by House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway (TEXAS) passed Committee on April 18. Today, the Congressional Western Caucus sent out an email, asking for support on several timely initiatives, including H.R. 2. The Caucus included a copy of the Family Farm Alliance support letter sent to the House Committee on Agriculture earlier this week, and noted it in its transmittal. The Alliance also signed onto another letter earlier this week, focusing on the farm bill conservation title, as part of its involvement with the Western Agriculture and Conservation Coalition.

The Farm Bill of 2018 is packed with an array of provisions which aim to address economic challenges facing farmers and ranchers. Importantly, the bill contains several provisions aimed at improving opportunities for conservation work, assisting beginning farmers and ranchers, facilitating active forest management and preventing catastrophic wildfires that are already damaging important western watersheds. This bill is expected to be on the House floor in May; the Western Caucus encourages you to Jeff Small at the Western Caucus: Jeff.Small@mail.house.gov

They ask that your organization add your endorsement, if possible. Doing so is extremely helpful in terms of getting this effort over the finish line. To support this Farm Bill, simply send Jeff Small an email saying, “Jeff, <insert name> endorses H.R. 2.” Letters of support for H.R. 2 are also extremely helpful if you have time and you can send those as well. Endorsements and letters of support are most helpful to have by COB Monday, May 7, 2018. Thank you in advance for your consideration and action.
