PRESS RELEASE: ALLIANCE PRESIDENT TO SPEAK AT “WATER IN THE WEST” SYMPOSIUM

The annual Colorado State University conference is focused on solutions to water and other challenges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 11/2/2021

(Fort Collins, Colorado) – Family Farm Alliance President Patrick O’Toole, whose family owns and operates a sheep and cattle ranch on the Colorado-Wyoming border, is one of three speakers who will participate in the “Solutions in the American West” panel at the Colorado State University (CSU) Water in the West Symposium, scheduled for November 3, 2021.

The fourth annual “Water in the West” symposium at CSU Spur this year is a fully virtual event. Registration runs $40 to $60.

“This year’s Symposium is focused on solutions to water and other challenges at different scales,” said Jocelyn Hittle, Assistant Vice Chancellor at CSU. “The idea is that audience members can take lessons learned from regional work, and apply them at the scale at which they work.”

Mr. O’Toole’s panel appearance tomorrow falls on the heels of his October 20 appearance before the U.S. House Water, Oceans and Wildlife Subcommittee, where he testified on the Colorado River drought.

Mr. O’Toole will be joined by Bidtah Becker (Navajo Tribal Utility Authority) and Jennifer Pitt (Colorado River Program Director, Audubon). The panel will be moderated by Brad Udall, Senior Water and Climate Research Scientist at CSU.

The one-hour “Solutions in the American West” panel discussion is scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m. (Mountain).

“This panel focuses on solutions to water challenges in the American West,” said Ms. Hittle. “This could take a number of directions, but we know that addressing the Colorado River, inter-jurisdictional and inter-sectoral work, and creative thinking are all part of the picture.”

The all-online sessions are organized around city, state, regional, national and international approaches. Other speakers and panelists scheduled include U.S. Interior Department Assistant Secretary Tanya Trujillo, state Attorney General Phil Weiser, Perry Cabot of Colorado State University, and Becky Mitchell of the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
