Senate and House each pass versions of 2018 Farm Bill
The House of Representatives earlier this month passed its version of the farm bill on its second try as Republican leadership managed to round up just enough support from hard-line conservatives to carry the bill across the finish line. As this edition of The Monthly Briefing was going to press, the Senate had just passed its bipartisan farm bill , which does not propose controversial changes to food stamps, formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The Senate bill passed easily, by a vote of 86-11.
The passage of the Senate bill sets the stage for a conference committee to reconcile differences with the broader House bill.
